Staying fit during pregnancy has many benefits. I won’t bore you with them here – you likely now them all! But for me the biggest benefit to ‘moving’ daily is that it makes me feel better and more energized. As any pregnant woman (or mom!) would tell you, when expecting it can be tricky to find things that make you feel good…but exercise definitely makes me feel good! And so often I feel helpless as to what I can do for the twins right now – but by eating right (most of the time 😉 ) and exercising in moderation – I know I’m doing the best I can to keep us all healthy.
Even carrying twins and being a slightly higher risk pregnancy, I still work to incorporate exercise into my weekly routine. So when Amanda from Fit Pregnancy and Parenting reached out to me with an opportunity to try out her exercise DVD I was more than excited.
Amanda is a healthy mom of two adorable children and she’s a personal trainer. I feel like she has a realistic outlook on what most moms can do during pregnancy. Amanda sent me her Total Body Workout DVD about two weeks ago to try out.
*I received the DVD for review purposes – always remember all opions are my own!
I tried the DVD out the day after I received it in the mail. I was very surprised! Why you might ask? Well because it is tough 🙂 Many prenatal workouts seem a bit too easy for me – don’t get me wrong – this one is safe and has many modifications but I was still left thinking it was a bit tougher than others I’ve tried out.
The workout if just around 35 minutes long. Perfect length as anything longer and I’d need a potty break 🙂 The workout is broken up into circuits – cardio, core, upper, lower body. The cardio portion repeats itself a couple of times to keep the blood flowing. I have to be honest here though – for me at just over 24 weeks with twins – the jogging in place and other cardio moves didn’t feel the best. So I modified just marched in place or did a lighter version of the exercise Amanda demonstrated.
I didn’t feel at all uncomfortable with any of the resistance circuits though (just knew I would be feeling it the next day)! I loved them all. You need very little equipment (3-5 lb weights, or if doing advanced 7-10 lbs). My favorite part about this DVD is that it will be terrific for after the boys arrive. Amanda has one of her advanced clients right next to her. So the entire DVD has an advanced option and a prenatal modification – PERFECT investment! I can really see myself using this as part of my routine for months to come. I would highly recommend this DVD to any woman looking to stay in shape during pregnancy or just for any woman looking for an effective workout at home.
I think what I’m reminded of over and over again – and again with this DVD – during pregnancy is to LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! Is it ‘safe’ for me to do the cardio moves in this DVD? By the text book yes but it didn’t feel right for me right now – so I chose not to do those moves 100%. Always listen to your body and remind yourself that listening to your body, moving, and eating healthy are all key to loving yourself!
