It’s 3:30 PM. The boys are still down for their nap. I’m not exactly hungry but I need a little something sweet. I grab a piece of fruit and some nuts. That seems to help but I’m still craving something sweet. UHHHH, does this sound like you?
Never fear I’m here to help you overcome food cravings!
As a stay at home mom I find that often times the later the day goes on, the more the boys wear on me, the more tired I get (ok maybe exhausted is the word having toddler twins)…the more I crave food even when I’m not hungry. Now do NOT GET ME WRONG. I am ALL ABOUT HONORING your cravings in moderation. There is nothing, I repeat NOTHING wrong, with overcoming food cravings by eating in moderation. And let’s face it I like sugar and I like carbs. So while I do honor my cravings I also know and listen to my body…and if I am constantly putting in brownies or baked goods to satisfy my cravings I don’t feel at my best. My digestion isn’t as good, my energy crashes soon after…I feel better when I eat wholesome, nutritious foods and hydrate myself. If I want to look and feel my best I know I need to find another way to overcome food cravings.
So yes every now and then I’ll have myself a brownie 🙂 but usually I know in my head that I’m not truly hungry. If I stop and mindfully (yes I actually STOP and think am I really, really hungry and why am I hungry) think about what I want it isn’t the food, it’s just a little something for energy and the sweet taste.
I want to share with you one of the ways I’ve recently discovered to overcome food cravings. Enter my new favorite…Momsanity BCAAs.
BCAA’s. Huh? Branched-Chain Amino Acids. Sounds crazy scientific right? Let me break it down for you!
Our mom brains are the cause of those annoying afternoon and night time cravings. Your brain has chemical and hormones that involve dopamine, serotonin, acetycholine, and GABA. When our brains get too much cortisol (AKA mom life day in and day out)….the cravings come fast and furious.
How can this amazing supplement help us overcome food cravings?
Naturally BCAA’s occur in our body but their supply is often ran down through day to day stress and exercise. These BCAA’s contain three amino acids Leucine (this is the big craving fighter!!!), Isoleucine (promotes fat burnings), and Valine (promotes energy and mental clarity).
BCAA’s are literally a busy mom’s best friend.
They help to lower cortisol levels. Cortisol is one of the important stress hormones known for increasing blood sugar and aiding in metabolism. Usually a busy, stressed mom produces WAY TOO MUCH OF IT. When your body has too much cortisol it can cause fat storage and muscle burn, the opposite of what we want…fat burning and muscle building.
They help regulate hunger. Specifically that word leucine comes into play. That part of the BCAA combo activates all the hunger controlling molecules in your brain. YAY that’s the key to overcoming food cravings!
They balance our brains. BCAA’s not only fight cravings but they boost your mood and energy. BCAA’s are precursors to the brain’s number one relaxation neurotransmitter, called GABA. The BCAA’s balance it all out and stimulate these relaxation responses…ding, ding, ding less stress, less food cravings, more energy!
So the next time your brain tricks you, “Hey girl, I want a snack. Get me something sweet and gooey,” go grab your Fruit Punch or Cherry Lime BCAA’s and avoid the regret and feel really good!
