When I travel or have to miss church I often download podcast from North Point Community Church. My mother in law suggested his messages and then my hubby introduced them to me on our first drive down to his parents’ home. I LOVE Andy Stanley. Not many pastors (other than my personal church) can deliver a message that always drives home. I encourage you to give these a listen.
As I traveled for work to New Orleans last week, I had prepared for my flight times with podcasts from Andy’s last month or so. One of the messages sparked a change in my routine (our routine ). He spoke to married couples. Andy said he charged us all with doing one thing with our spouses, praying out loud together daily. Now I don’t know about you, but praying out loud has always TERRIFIED, not just scared, TERRIFIED me. Even in our small group at church, I get all sweaty nervous during the aloud prayer time. I love to talk, yes I just admitted that, but I like my talking with God to be private. But as Andy’s message went on, I became more and more compelled to try this challenge.
My husband is great at his devotional time and is a tremendously patient leader as I grow day by day in my faith. So when I suggested this to him, he was all for it. Many times after I’ve had a rough day or a family/friend is facing a challenge (or sometimes happy things!) he used to ask if he could pray out loud. I always said yes, but never thought I would do that! And I won’t lie, hearing my husband pray for me was one of the most touching moments of my life.
But two nights ago as we got ready for bed, I said let’s do it. I honestly was still terrified, even though the lights were out and I was only with my husband. I DID IT!! And though I still swear I sounded funny it was wonderful.
Andy has so many good reasons for why couples should pray together. I won’t spoil them all for you because I want you to go listen to his message, but some of them include trust, open communication, stronger marriage, more intimacy. The specific message you want to listen to is entitled You’ll Be Glad You Did, and it is part 3 in the series. Do try it…don’t be scared, remember change happens when you get uncomfortable, whether that’s in fitness, nutrition, or relationships…so GO MAKE A CHANGE AND CREATE A BETTER TOMORROW!
Do you pray out loud? When do you pray (morning, night, mid day)?
